But come on, the American Dream's just some crazy capitalist bullshit now. It's a philosophy that works on pleasure, and pleasure is temporary. You don't find happiness in instability.

It worked before, but these days it's an excuse for rich folks not to help people who really need it, because "they don't work hard enough".

Way I see it, "being wealthy" is different from "hoarding wealth because you don't want to share the excess".

I don't know, Aristotle called happiness "eudemonia". That's "flourishing, living well". Said it was different because it's always sought after, never a means to something else.

Pleasure's locked in that-- being means. It's temporary and fast, like being happy you graduate or get a job or something, because it never ends there. You go to college to get a job to earn money to buy something to do something, and it goes on and on. Small joys that lead to you wanting more.

Happiness ain't like that. You get it in living, period. It's never "I want to be happy so I can keep doing X", it's "I want to do X so I can be happy".

X is different for everyone. Takes the whole "self-discovery living your life true to yourself" schtick to figure out what that is.

I'm happy now. Teaching, being an X-Man. Having people who'll remember when my birthday is. A boyfriend who calls me a kitten. Long as I got a home and people I care about and good things to do, I'm set.

But it took me 180 years to get here, so it ain't that impressive.
