But come on, the American Dream's just some crazy capitalist bullshit now. It's a philosophy that works on pleasure, and pleasure is temporary. You don't find happiness in instability.
It worked before, but these days it's an excuse for rich folks not to help people who really need it, because "they don't work hard enough".
Way I see it, "being wealthy" is different from "hoarding wealth because you don't want to share the excess".
Ahh the Puritan work ethic and the oddly American Prosperity Gospel! "Work hard/be good and God rewards. If you fail it means you are a bad person so why should we help you?" Yeah, it's bullshit.
Or you're being nice because you want to fuck me even if my haircut cost more than your last shopping trip.
I do like the fucking. [ He's not even going to pretend he doesn't. ] But I liked you before I put your dick in my mouth.
I don't know, Aristotle called happiness "eudemonia". That's "flourishing, living well". Said it was different because it's always sought after, never a means to something else.
Pleasure's locked in that-- being means. It's temporary and fast, like being happy you graduate or get a job or something, because it never ends there. You go to college to get a job to earn money to buy something to do something, and it goes on and on. Small joys that lead to you wanting more.
Happiness ain't like that. You get it in living, period. It's never "I want to be happy so I can keep doing X", it's "I want to do X so I can be happy".
X is different for everyone. Takes the whole "self-discovery living your life true to yourself" schtick to figure out what that is.
I just read. Doesn't make me smart. [ The person who calls him stupid the most is, of course, himself. ]
I'm happy now. Teaching, being an X-Man. Having people who'll remember when my birthday is. A boyfriend who calls me a kitten. Long as I got a home and people I care about and good things to do, I'm set.
But it took me 180 years to get here, so it ain't that impressive.
Bullshit. BULL. SHIT. You did not just parrot information at me - you explained it and made it relevant. You got me to understand when I have no background in literature OR philosophy. That's fucking smart.
When is your birthday?
Ah, some of us are far behind. You'll have to forgive those of us who've not yet obtained that wisdom.

Where do we find happiness, professor?

Goddammit Logan how does anybody ever think you're dumb? That's philosophy shit right there. You just quoted Aristotle at me!
So. What makes YOU happy, mon minou?

[ It's nice. ]
My birthday's 5th of April, 1832. But I still get surprised when the kids get me a cake.
no subject
That's because you still think nobody loves you.

(You are. A lot. By several people. In lots of ways. And I know you probably don't buy it, but there we are.
Ps: super hot professor vibes, seriously can you lecture while nude?)
no subject
[ He's going to save that message, though, just as he tends to save everything that vaguely references to compassion sent his way.
See, Jean-Paul, you're an asshole, but not all the time. ]
But I'll lecture clothed and you can get me naked after.
no subject
I always get what I want.
[A blatant lie, at least concerning what's important to him.]

[ Logan's charmed all the same. Maybe he's broken. ]
I guess you do.
no subject
Merci.
What are you doing anyway?
no subject
What're you doing?

Just finishing some paperwork. You want to be left alone or you want some company?

2) Extremely. Be there in fifteen. Look sexy.
no subject
I also don't... the fuck does "sexy" mean?
no subject
Omg Logan are you for real?
no subject
And seriously. Do you want me in a suit?
The shirt you left behind?
Panties?
no subject
You'd wear all of those? Would you even fit my shirts?
If I ever see you in a suit I might die of shock.
no subject
Logan: Hey Rogue, what's this? Less than--?
Rogue: That's a heart, Logan.
Logan: ...oh. Huh.
Rogue: Does Northstar call you kitte--
Logan: No. ]
I own a suit. The hell makes you think I don't own a suit?
no subject
I've never seen you in one. Like not a tux, a suit. You really have one? And you would wear it?
