The former. Midlanders prefer the lowlands and the midlands, by the sea, open fields and rolling hills, in the forests... More pleasant and temperate locales, which is a likely reason for their slimmer features.

In contrast, Highlanders are tall and muscular, and rather rugged because they prefer harsher lands such as deserts and rough mountain regions. More suited to harsher climes, really. [Like Gyr Abania.]

You yourself would qualify as a Highlander in Eorzea, while many others here would qualify as Midlanders.

I feel all you Earth people are. [X'rhun shakes his head.] Many of those I've spoken to are so used to temperate climes and city living.

[How do they stand that sort of tedium?]

[personal profile] vermillon 2018-11-14 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Worry not, there are always exceptions to the rule. I've seen a few Highlanders in the forests as well.

[And he gives Logan a placating pat on the shoulder.]

My friend, as I have mentioned, we're all humans. And the Hyur are just as "special" as the rest of us, given we all have magic in our veins.

What may seem special for you might be entirely typical for Eorzeans, whatever the race may be.

[personal profile] vermillon 2018-11-14 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well... [He leans on his table again, tapping a hand against his cheek and the bandage on it.]

For one, none of them have claws like yours, unless they wear weapons or gauntlets like such. And none of them-- and by extension the rest of the spoken races-- mutate unless prompted by outside forces.

[personal profile] vermillon 2018-11-14 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
If you would prefer to put it that way.

Though others don't have magic at all. I suppose us Eorzeans are a class all on our own, even those who most resemble you people.

[personal profile] vermillon 2018-11-14 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Magic is everywhere in Eorzea, Logan. The air is teeming with it, the lands with such strong energy having changed over time to show it. People flock to such places, knowing that life may flourish there.

[And then his expression grows grave.]

A land without aether-- without life energy-- is a land devoid of any sort of life.

[personal profile] vermillon 2018-11-15 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know. [An honest answer delivered with a tone of dismay.] Amongst the abilities of mine that don't function as they should, my ability to sense the world is dulled. Others, I can still tell apart in some way if they carry magicks, but not Deerington itself.

[personal profile] vermillon 2018-11-16 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Made less potent, but aye. [Then he twitches his ears.]

But I shan't be casting any more Flares, my friend. That's not in my specialty. [And... he thinks if he attempted it out here, without even a black mage crystal to ease the way, he would kill himself.

Again.]

[personal profile] vermillon 2018-11-16 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, X'rhun can always put a Verflare on him...

But no, he would rather not cast a spell on Logan.]

I shall need a striking dummy for that, my friend-- my magicks are purely for combat, and I refuse to use them on you despite your ability to heal.

[personal profile] vermillon 2018-11-16 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
You are rather self-sacrificing, my friend. [Almost every encounter they've had has just been Logan doing this over and over again.] And I would prefer to have your rear intact, with how soothing it is to look at.

[personal profile] vermillon 2018-11-16 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
[X'rhun would have said more, something about that little cross over Logan's chest, but he's interrupted by yawning. And he shakes his head, a small smile on his face.]

Mm... Are you sure you don't wish to sleep here? The daybed is free, and I have more room upstairs.
