I'm not a superhero. Or anyone who should be an example to others.
[ He's not a hero of any kind. He's done plenty of things he's not proud of, things that would put him behind bars, things put his soul at risk. And maybe most damning of all, he can't find it in himself to regret them. Not even when his actions hurt the people he cares about.
But what Logan says goes straight to his heart and settles there, warm and uplifting, and his smile might be tremulous but it's also genuine. ]
I'll be honest, I thought it was my time. I thought...one of these days I'm not gonna be able to get back up, and maybe I can choose when that happens, why it happens. Guess I was wrong, but I'm glad. [ He threads his fingers with Logan's, holding tight. ] 'Cause look what I would have missed.
An old man feeding you soup? [ But even that attempt at teasing humour comes out soft, and Logan dips his head to consider their joined hands-- how big Matt's has become, how his knuckles are thicker undoubtedly from how much they've been split open.
He's lost so much fucking time. ]
Nobody thinks they're a hero to other people. [ The statement comes out soft, almost nonchalant despite the importance of it, the inherently heavy weight. ] But you seem pretty damn close to it to me.
I'm glad I'm here to see it, Matty.
[ He wants to keep holding his hand. He wants to keep feeling this warmth, this pressure-- when did Matt get so strong?
But the soup's getting cold. ]
C'mon, I bet you're starving. [ Though a touch reluctantly, Logan's grip relents, slipping away to take the spoon up. ] Eat.
I'll take it any day. [ Better than an old man hitting him with sticks, he thinks. Although Matt would never put Logan into the same category as Stick, not a million years. There's always been this sort of innocent attachment he's felt, but so different from when he tried to push his old mentor into a fathering role. Logan progressed out of that slot years ago.
His tears are drying, but now his cheeks are burning from the compliments, even he's needed desperately to hear them. ]
You're the best nurse I've ever had. [ Obediently, he settles back down and lets Logan spoon soup into his mouth. Matt's too easily tired to eat the whole bowl, but the man isn't wrong, he feels like he hasn't eaten in weeks. ]

maybe we can end this scene here, do another?
[ But he feeds Matt the rest of his soup until he can't eat any more, and rounds it off with some needed gulps of water. ]
