( she keeps searching, a slight frown on her expression. after her... mishap in the hospital she'd kept herself out of trouble for a little bit, reading what she could rather than diving into danger. research was a strength of hers )

( sorry, logan, she's not a people person. and it sounds like you've got the families covered )

The biggest one? Smelliest one? The one that beat me up most?
no subject
( big beast didn't necessarily mean dangerous beast. she didn't always look that dangerous and then... well, he knew how that went )

It sucked my soul out of my body.
no subject
How?
no subject
And my soul... a lot lighter than I thought it'd be, actually, came outta my chest.
no subject
You got it back somehow.

Chances are he's not doing a bang-up job of it. ]
It was like losing my life and my memory at the same time. Nothing flashed behind my eyes because there weren't any memories to hang onto.

If only staying away from them was such an easy thing.
( no doubt they were still out there )

[ One last bottle, and that's all he has space for in his pockets. God damn it. ]
...I should've brought a bag.

( and whilst they didn't look very useful, women's pockets never were, she's managed to stash far more than should be possible in them. advanced physics is wonderful )
Though if there are creatures here that can do that it makes me wonder what else there is.

Sometimes the monsters don't even look like monsters. First one I saw looked just like a little boy.
no subject
And those that we saw.
( the first monsters that they'd seen -- a girl, dolls. anything seemed to wish to kill them )
Nightmares are real.

If you believe this place is a dream, then yeah. Nightmares're real. [ He picks up one last thing-- an antibiotic that helps with sepsis. Logan's not good at medicines, but he knows this one intimately. It'd saved lives out on the battlefield.
He gives it to River for safekeeping. ]
Dream logic ain't good for me. You know the moon's been off for two months now? [ He shakes his head. ] Fucks with my instincts more than anything else.
[ And he's an animal who relies heavily on them. ]

( although her delivery is very casual there's a hint to it that says how serious she believes in this. she was raised in nightmares, incredibly literally. there was no reason why she wouldn't believe it.
speaking of instincts, though the moon itself hadn't affected river there was something else here that was playing with her own senses )
But I've noticed something similar. I don't have an explanation yet but something is missing or blocked here.

( river pauses again, ignoring what else may still be around them for the time being, stepping closer to him )
It's like a sense. I usually know exactly where I am -- the location, the time. Like coordinates.
no subject
He cocks his head to the side. ]
And you're sayin' this place ain't anywhere?
no subject
( no, really, there was a place called nowhere )
Even at the end of the universe I could feel something, when time and space were collapsing. I think something is stopping me from knowing.
no subject
Well... [ He lifts a hand, scritching lightly at the beard on his jaw. ] It might be the same thing that's fucking with everyone's powers.
This town ain't very kind about letting us know anything, you know.
no subject
( she knew he was more than just human from his claws but what else was there, and who else was there that could do something else? )
no subject
But I heal... or at least, I did it automatically. Now I gotta think about it, and any wounds I get are moved to anyone who might be nearby. I also have a friend who can control gravitational fields, manipulate metal-- and now he can barely do anything. People who can fly can't leave this town, either-- there're other people, other powers, and it's just a whole clusterfuck.

I'm not entirely human. ( it was just something that she was but something she rarely talked about. people assumed she was human based on her appearance and whilst they weren't exactly wrong she didn't feel the need to correct them ) As far as I know that sense is the only thing that's different.
( though things like her telepathy she didn't often use and from what she could tell he was speaking english. she hadn't found any texts to see if that had been affected )
