I met the nurses.

( and for once she's not smiling. river may have dabbled with aphrodisiacs of her own but that was under her own whim and nothing quite so torturous of what that blood did )

But usually where there's something dangerous there's also something rewarding. You don't have to follow me.

( she'll just (try to) be a little more cautious this time )

[danzan]

You kidding me? I'm already here.

[ And he's not in the habit of letting people go into danger alone if he can help them somehow. Logan doubts he can talk River out of this, so he banks on maybe keeping her from doing anything stupid instead.

He makes his way to the front door, leaning his head in towards it and listening. Not hearing anything on the other side, he deems it safe to push it open, and once he's sure the hinges won't be creaking too loudly, he moves so it's open all the way. ]

( though she doesn't say as much river is glad that he's there. having someone to watch her back is always a relief, even if it doesn't happen often, but given the tight scraps that they've already gotten through river is confident that together they can manage it. that aside they're (at least a little bit) friendly. and she does have a few burning questions that have been building )

( she follows through the door, glad that her gun had managed to come into this place with her. river waits until they've scouted the foyer, making sure that nothing else is around them before speaking again )

Not that I'm complaining but why did you agree to come? You don't seem to be that fond of danger even though you're very well equipped for it.

'cause I knew you were going. [ Which is just some roundabout Wolverine way of saying that he's a worrier. Half the reason Logan tries to avoid people is because he'll be pulled into their shit no matter what-- and not even because he's forced to. ]

[retrorsum]

Well, that's sweet.

( and whilst river is a little touched by it she sounds slightly sarcastic. she does at least manage to hold back on jokingly commenting that she feels like she'd saved his butt last time )

So, how did it happen?

( she holds up her own hand as a gesture )

[ He doesn't get it. Logan stares at her hand. ] How did what happen.

The claws. Very interesting defence mechanism.

I was b-- [ His head turns sharply at the sound of something shifting, and though his ears pick it up as something wheeled moving in a room closed by a door, he still walks the opposite direction of where the noise came from. ]

( river hears it as well, more than happy to avoid the noise. she might like adventures and can't resist a locked door but knowing there was danger here river wanted to avoid it. she had good self-preservation despite her other instincts )

Sounds painful.

( especially given how they looked )

My lot in life. [ It's the very epitome of a verbal shrug. ]

( she avoids looking at him when she says that. river knows pain -- the first part of her life was spent growing up in pain. physical, emotional. some that could never heal.

her attention focuses on a door, starting to head into that direction )

[ So Logan follows her dutifully, slipping into comfortable, mission-oriented silence.

There's no time to mourn here. ]

[retrorsum]

( river pushes the door open, it being one of the few in this hospital that is unlocked. the next room is a mess but for now they are the only ones in that room. she sets to looking around, seeing if there are any supplies that they can take back that haven't already been collected )

[danzan]

[ While River uses her eyes, Logan uses his sniffer, and what he finds is an opened bottle of sedative-- the sort you required a syringe to use. He cups this in his palm, figuring he might as well. ]

Hey, you see any bandages, could I have 'em?

[ He's preeeeeetty much gone through his supply with how October went. ]

Getting into trouble is starting to sound like a habit.

( and if river didn't know any better she'd think that he enjoyed it. she knew why she liked him though considering he was good in a pinch and knew what he was doing. and would dive into trouble

she will, at least, share some bandages. maybe not all of them though )

What happened after I saw you last time?

[danzan]

Eh... [ He makes some brief, waving gesture with his hand, tipping it from left to right. ] Helped more families, mostly.

But there've been more beasts the later into the month it got.

[retrorsum]

Describe them.

( she keeps searching, a slight frown on her expression. after her... mishap in the hospital she'd kept herself out of trouble for a little bit, reading what she could rather than diving into danger. research was a strength of hers )

[danzan]

The families or the beasts?

[retrorsum]

The beasts.

( sorry, logan, she's not a people person. and it sounds like you've got the families covered )

[danzan]

They all looked different. [ And he's seen... far too many in the span of thirty or so days. ] You'll have to be specific.

The biggest one? Smelliest one? The one that beat me up most?

[retrorsum]

I'd be more concerned with that last one than their sizes.

( big beast didn't necessarily mean dangerous beast. she didn't always look that dangerous and then... well, he knew how that went )

[danzan]

All right. [ He finds another bottle, this one of pills, and though he might not know what they do, he keeps them as well. ]

It sucked my soul out of my body.

[retrorsum]

( she turns to look at him, search abandoned, expression concerned )

How?

[danzan]

I don't know how it works. [ He barely knows how his fucking phone works, for one thing. ] I just know the creature had me slammed into the ground, opened its mouth, and breathed in deep.

And my soul... a lot lighter than I thought it'd be, actually, came outta my chest.

[retrorsum]

( river looks appropriately disturbed by that. there aren't many things that terrify or disturb her but this has managed to be one of them )
