[ Logan has reached a point in his life where seeing the kids at the school smiling gets his own mouth threatening to pull the same expression. It's a little embarrassing -- if asked, he'll glare at anyone who says such a thing -- but he watches Kurt, with his bottle held at the neck between two fingers and his arm relaxed over his thigh, and.
It's cute. ]
There were a lot of you? [ Logan knows the answer before he asks. ] Kids, I mean.
I'd fallen asleep. She got lucky and caught me off-guard.
[he snaps his fingers with disappointment, but the upward lift of those blue lips tells another story. kurt's rather fond of his circus family-- so much so that he'd even thought about asking the professor to help him track them down.
until it happens, he can sigh and be nostalgic about them.]
Three of us. We went all over Germany with the traveling circus before it [pause] fell into the wrong hands, as it were.
[he expects no less than straightforward from logan and (unsurprisingly) kurt wants to be able to be upfront with him, too.]
The circus got sold to a man who wanted to put the people with more physical mutations in a freakshow.
[it all probably comes out a little too fast, words somewhat running together, but only because it leaves a bad taste in his mouth-- one he attempts to wash down with more carbonated drink.]
[ "Freakshow" and "circus" have two different connotations. Even Logan recognises it, though he's admittedly not the best at explaining how he does.
His expression darkens. Kurt might be trying to be more civil about it, but his anger is real -- more because being used like that so shitty people can profit hits closer to home than it should.
[sour-tasting bile is still on his tongue when he nods his head. he swallows, raises a hand to curl against his mouth, eyebrows knitting together with thought.]
Not that I know of.
[but from the corner of his eye, kurt can see the shadow across logan's face and ends up biting his tongue before he can ask. something he'll save for later.] I'm sure they left not long after I did.
[he scrubs a hand over his face, finishes the contents of the bottle then sets it aside.] Even if I made it without them, [kurt admits sullenly.] Some months later, I ended up in Berlin where Mystique found me.
[ Really, Kurt. Let's use the beautiful brain your Catholic God gave you. ]
We'll follow the trail as far as we can. [ Logan sets his empty bottle of pop on the floor. ] Just tell Chuck you're spending your spring break learning Tracking 101.
[give him credit where it's due-- he's still getting used to having people around that will help instead of hinder! or, you know, outright fight him for survival.
again, the teleporter shifts, upper-half dipping somewhat as he leans closer.] Do you think he'll believe that? [he drags his own bottle over, sets it up alongside logan's and tips his head.] And what happens if we do find them?
And searching for my family is absolutely a good reason.
[kurt blinks expectantly, studying logan while he waits for an answer then promptly laughing when the older man musses his hair.
he reaches to clasp logan's shoulder and squeeze firmly, though that doesn't feel like enough. even if he's unsure of the reaction, the blue boy follows through anyway, stretching his other arm out and around to embrace his mentor.] ... thank you, Logan.
God, when was the last time Logan had been hugged?
He doesn't move even after Kurt's said thank you, sitting there at a loss for what to do. At least he didn't stiffen up, though.
Eventually he relaxes into it, and though he doesn't necessarily return the gesture, he does bring his hand up to pat at Kurt's back with a small smile. ]
Don't worry about it. [ A beat. ] And don't tell anyone I let you hug me, either.
[had logan tensed, kurt would have immediately pulled away and apologized. sometimes, he does things without thinking. a hug just seemed like the most appropriate thing he could offer in return for something so great.
he's surprised at the touch on his back — he hadn't been expecting anything in return — but does his best to act casual when he pulls away.
how can he resist teasing him a little, though? it's a perfect moment.]
Never fear, [he assures, grinning wide.] Your secret is safe with me.

[ The way he says it reflects the heaviness of Kurt's tone. He frowns. ]
What do you mean?
[ There's no "if I can ask that" bullshit here, no sir. If Kurt's brought it up, Logan assumes he can ask. ]
