Though every movement he made was slower, Logan's motions were measured all the same. He was done quickly, but grumped about how hard it was to sit and get back up. At least cleaning up after wasn't so bad.
He liked that Nathan was so careful about holding him, a small smile appearing on his face when he felt Nathan take his arm again and walk him back. Nathan had always been nice to him, even before the pregnancy, and it always had the back of Logan's neck prickling with the heat of a blush, as if he'd never be able to get used to it.
"If I rested more, I'd sleep all day." But Logan couldn't deny that sitting on the mattress again was relieving, and so was finding his spot against the pillows. He tugged a little at Nathan to pull him up, wanting to feel him close, and thumped his cheek against his shoulder as soon as he was able to. "...which actually isn't a half-bad idea, but."
Sleeping all day wasn't exactly lucrative, was it?
With Logan settled in bed again Nathan cuddled close, holding him as best he could and nuzzling into his hair. He treasured even the smallest displays of affection, but moments like this were his favorite. They didn’t just warm his heart. They touched his soul.
“I don’t mind joining you. We won’t be getting much sleep when the pups are born.”
Nathan rested his hand on his mate’s belly as he relaxed next to him, enjoying the warmth and closeness. There were still things that he needed to do around the house, but the extra rest would probably be good for him. He was losing more sleep than Logan, and Logan was the pregnant one.
He smiled when he felt their pups move, shifting to get comfortable in Logan’s womb. Nathan gently started to rub as he kissed along Logan’s neck, lightly brushing his lips over the bite mark. His rubbing seemed to calm the pups, as though they could the presence of their father.
"You already don't get much sleep." Not that Logan was scolding him, but his worry was clear in his tone. He hummed as Nathan's hand moved, his head tilting to accommodate the soft touch of his lips, and the brief motion against the bite had his heart flutter just a bit (as it always did).
"Fathers need their rest too, you know."
Hand cupping Nathan's cheek, Logan gave him another soft kiss to the lips. The corners of his mouth pulled up into a comforting smile, words soft against his mate's lips. "Might not be able to move around so much, but my senses're still sharp. You don't have to be awake all night for me an' the pups, babe."
The movement in his belly finally settled down, no doubt affected by the calm of their parents. Logan believed in that sort of shit; the only reason he'd taken to reading out loud lately was because he was sure they'd be listening.
Nathan rested his forehead against Logan’s and closed his eyes, breathing a deep sigh of contentment. Even though their pups had calmed he continued to rub Logan’s belly, like he was trying to show the little ones just how much he loved them already. Maybe it was silly, but Nathan felt as though they knew when he was there, and that they could somehow sense the deep affection that both of their parents felt for them.
“I’m all right,” he assured him, not wanting him to worry. Nathan was tired, but he wasn’t losing enough sleep to affect his health. At least not that he’d noticed. He had enough energy to make love several times throughout the day, so he was sure he was fine.
He gently nudged Logan’s nose with his own and returned the soft kisses, smiling as their lips touched.
"We love you too," Logan said right back, grinning wide enough to show his teeth. He turned just a bit-- not enough for his belly to make it hard to press close to Nathan, but enough that he wouldn't have to crane his neck too much to kiss him again, and again, and again. "But you're sleepin' more, Nathan.
"You can lose sleep when they're born and you're doing all the cleaning at night."
His tone was light enough it was obvious Logan was joking, if the smile on his mouth wasn't a big enough hint already. That, and the fact that Logan was pressing another kiss to his lips, punctuated with a small lick with his tongue. The tips of Logan's fingers stroked Nathan's cheek, then trailed down the side of his neck and over a broad shoulder towards his bicep-- light, gentle.
Touching his forehead to Nathan's own, Logan shut his eyes and took in his scent. Despite all the time he'd been spending at home with him, Logan relished the smell of him as if every time was the first.
"I was thinking," he murmured, "about names.
"I like Laura." Opening his eyes again, Logan looked up at him. "And John, after my father.
"Besides that, I'm stuck." He laughed. "But I guess we ought'a wait for 'em to come out first, huh?"
“I’ll try,” he promised, returning each of Logan’s kisses with two of his own. It wasn’t easy for him, as it was more of an instinct than a conscious decision. Knowing that his mate would wake him if there was a problem wasn’t the same as already being prepared, but he doubted it would do him much good to argue. Besides, he couldn’t let himself get too worn down or he’d be completely useless.
Nathan smiled and reached up to run his hand over Logan’s hair, then along his cheek. His scent had changed subtly since he’d become pregnant. It seemed much softer and sweeter; something that lured Nathan in with warmth and affection while providing him with a sense of calm. He wondered if Logan’s scent would have that effect on others or just him. Regardless, Nathan enjoyed it.
“I don’t think it would hurt to think of a few names beforehand,” he replied with a chuckle. “I like Autumn a lot, so I guess we have three of five taken care of. As long as we have two girls and a boy, anyway.”
If anyone implied Logan enjoyed being petted, he'd have told them to shut the hell up. But the fact that he leaned into Nathan's touch so easily, pressing into his palm and nudging his nose against Nathan's fingers, probably spoke enough of the truth.
"Autumn," he murmured, each syllable causing his smile to widen affectionately. Thinking of names cemented the reality of their future and what was to come (as if the fact that his body had changed so much hadn't already done so), and he gave Nathan's hand a kiss before he turned to look up at him again.
His chest went tight, and he brushed his knuckles as gently as he could against the angle of Nathan's jaw, down towards his collarbone, and even further to cup where his heart lay in his chest.
"Thank you for making this happen. For starting a family with me." Looking down at where his fingers rested, Logan stroked a circle there with his thumb. "...I've wanted this for as long as I can remember. It really...
Nathan looked down to where Logan’s hand rested on his chest, and what he said almost brought tears to Nathan’s eyes. He took Logan’s hand in his and brought it to his lips, pressing a soft kiss against his palm, then gently nuzzling. Every time he thought of their future and what their family was going to be like his heart swelled with both happiness and pride. He couldn’t have asked for better gifts in his life; his beloved mate and the children they were bringing into the world was all Nathan wanted.
“It means everything to me, having you in my life.” He reached up to stroke Logan’s cheek with the backs of his fingers. “Having a loving mate and a family are the only things I’ve ever wanted. Now you’re giving me both.”
He gave Logan a soft kiss on the lips.
“There’s nothing I can say or do to show you how thankful I am.”
"You do enough," Logan promised, lips brushing gently over Nathan's own as he took the hand against his cheek. He laced their fingers together, his hold loose but not any less intimate, and he nipped lightly at his mate's lip before smiling wide enough he knew he'd feel it. "You do more than enough."
If there was one downside to being pregnant, it was how hard it was to move. Logan wanted to roll over, to swing a leg 'round and dig his knee into the mattress by Nathan's hip so he could hover over him. The belly, of course, made that impossible, but Logan turned as much as he could without crowding too much into Nathan's space, but just enough to twine their ankles together, too.
